Online Backup Improves Data Security

Port-to-Port has spent more than a year evaluating options for performing a backup that doesn’t involve someone swapping tapes every day. We evaluated network devices and online services from big name companies and brand new startups. In the end, we believe the best solution involves a combination of the two options. By adding a device that performs continuous data protection (CDP) for your server then having that device stream its content to an offsite location, you can have a full backup available onsite at all times and a copy that is offsite at all times as well. In addition, your data is recoverable within minutes of the failure rather than to last night. The cost of this combination is slightly higher than the traditional tape drive configuration, but it works without daily intervention. ...(More)

Keeping up with Technology

The speed of change is a defining characteristic of the Information Age. It took 38 years for there to be 50 million radio listeners. Television took 13 years to reach the 50 million mark. The Internet passed 50 million users in less than four years. Some of us can remember when the fax machine was first introduced to our offices. Our younger peers need instructions in order to send a fax because they don’t do it often enough. In a relatively short time span, we saw this piece of technology arrive, become ubiquitous, and nearly vanish. The fax machine had a long lifespan compared to more recent technological innovations. Already the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) has all but disappeared – replaced by the smartphone.

While most of us find it hard to imagine work life without email, others are abandoning email for the more immediate response of Instant Messaging. The first Internet domain name was issued in March of 1985. In less than the span of one work career, this medium has become so tightly integrated into our businesses that we can’t get things done without it. According to Barb Bitzer, CFO, Controllership and Business Development services are what set Simons Bitzer apart from other accountants in Central Indiana. Of course Simons Bitzer offers the basic accounting services, but it’s their forward-thinking partnerships that set them apart in the world of number crunching.

Forming relationships, building trust and working alongside their clients accentuates their success. Greg Simons and Barb Bitzer’s combined experience of close to 40 years includes time in the Big Four, Fortune 500 and personal accounting arenas. Chris Sudler

Caring about our customers and being on the innovative edge of information technology services in Indianapolis is what Chris Sudler believes sets Port-to-Port Consulting apart, and what attracted him to become a member of our team.

Chris joined Port-to-Port in January of this year. Since that time he has had the opportunity to meet and work for most of our clients. He enjoys learning new things and facing new challenges daily. Chris also enjoys working for a small company, and takes every opportunity to study new technologies and methods to help him better support our Pertingo® clients.

Chris is a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, and IUPUI, majoring in Computer Sciences. He is a member of the Marine Reserves, and serves as a Data Systems Specialist setting up, supporting and maintaining networks and encryption. He spent time this year training in Korea. Even though he enjoyed his trip – he was happy to get home.

He and his fiancé, Mackenzie, purchased a home on the Southside of Indianapolis this summer. He has recently done fence repair and some drywall work at his new home. When he has free time from the wonders of being a homeowner, Chris enjoys playing his bass guitar and physical training.

If you have not yet had the chance to meet Chris, we hope you will soon. If you have any questions for him, you can reach him via email at chris@port-to-port.com.
