Getting Your Email Read
Estimates place the number of email messages received by business people each day somewhere between 30 and 50 (after excluding what everyone would agree is spam). In addition, each of us sends a similar number of messages each day. The average is increasing by about 80 percent each year. With all of those messages clogging your recipient’s inbox, how do you increase the chances that your email gets read?
The best thing you can do is to keep your subject line short. A two year study conducted by Return Path concluded that your subject line should be 49 characters or less (spaces count). Emails with subjects of this length have a 12.5 percent greater chance of being opened.
