Ricoh is in the Game
We are always evaluating hardware and software for their potential use in your offices. Most of the time you never hear about the things we review because they don't measure up to the things we're already using. For decades, the number one name in laser printing has been Hewlett Packard. We've recommended their printers without much thought. When we evaluated other manufacturers printers we found they weren't as reliable or they cost more. We've found an exception in Ricoh. This company makes the equipment that many other manufacturers use in their copiers, printers, and faxes. In fact, Ricoh equipment handles nearly one third of all paper printed in offices throughout the world.

Notes from the Lab
This has been an exciting year for those of us who acknowledge that we have some geek DNA in our blood. Microsoft started it with the release of Vista, and will continue to roll out new versions of its products throughout the year with the final release being the new server operating system, Windows Server 2008, in December. The fun doesn't stop with Microsoft though. Here are some of the things that we're playing with in the Port-to-Port labs. You'll hear more about them as we make discoveries.
Phone Systems
Asterisk is an Open Source phone system made by a company called Digium. It is a full featured PBX that runs on PC hardware using the Linux operating system. Andrew Fisher
As the senior member of the Field Technician team, Andrew Fisher is constantly in motion. Andrew joined Port-to-Port directly from Purdue University, actually a month before he graduated with his Bachelor of Sciences in Computer Technology in 2003. He hit the ground running then, and has not stopped yet.
Andrew has worked with almost every Port-to-Port client during his tenure, so many know him fairly well. The atmosphere at Port-to-Port and being able to help people are what Andrew enjoys about his position. He likes the personal interaction and spends most of his time in the field working with clients to resolve issues. What you may not know is Andrew is responsible for planning and executing the server installations. He also creates client inventories and acts as a mentor/training facilitator for new technicians. So even when he's not working on specific client issues, he stays busy behind the scenes and is an integral part of our team.
Andrew is originally from Evansville Indiana, but he also considers Chicago home. He spent time there as a youth, which explains his love of the Chicago Bears. Andrew returned to Shelbyville Indiana where he graduated before attending classes at Purdue in Indianapolis. When he's not working, you can find Andrew rollerblading or bicycling on the Monon Trail, on the links with the Port-to-Port Golf League or at home cooking gourmet meals. An admitted TV addict, he enjoys down time occasionally.
If you have any questions for Andrew, the best way to contact him is via email at Andrew@port-to-port.com
