What Do You Really Think?

Here at Port-to-Port, we just finished that annual ritual known as the Performance Review. It's a useful exercise that should be done more regularly, but we all try to avoid the things that make us uncomfortable. Performance reviews make everybody uncomfortable, including the reviewer, the stellar performer, and the slacker. Yet we usually come away from them feeling good that we did them. We get some confirmation, and some affirmation, of our perceptions of how we're doing. On occasion we get a surprise, but most often we get some gentle feedback that nudges us back on course. ...(More)

Hasta la Vista, Vista

At one minute past midnight on January 30th, many computer stores across the country had all checklanes open so the true PC enthusiasts (read Geeks) could be the first in their neighborhoods to own a copy of the new Microsoft operating system known as Vista. It's been over five years (October 25, 2001) since Microsoft released Windows XP. At that time, Microsoft spent crazy money heralding the new operating system and it worked. The stores were packed at midnight. This time around was less crowded. For one, it's been five years - an eternity in technology terms - since the last release. In the meantime, computing has taken on more of an Internet flavor. Besides, the beta period was so long and included so many people that any true enthusiast (read Geek) would already have installed one or more versions of Vista in the past months.

Not me. I waited (but not in line) for the official version before embarking on this new journey that we will all eventually have to take. I did it in the best way possible. I ordered a new PC equipped beyond the minimum requirements to run all of the features of Vista. When I got it, I started from scratch to be sure no remnants of the now-obsolete Windows XP could hide somewhere during an upgrade installation. ...(More)

Indiana Humanities Council

The Indiana Humanities Council resides in the historic Old Northside neighborhood of Indianapolis. It is a beautiful, yet unassuming building that does not lend a clue to the amount of intellectual energy that is circulating within its walls.

The energy is focused on change, community and resources. The mission of the Indiana Humanities Council is to strengthen communities through targeted initiatives in leadership, education, and culture. This statement does not tell you that over 10% of Indiana's citizens participate in the Councils programs. It does not imply that the goal of the Council is to work with leadership across the state to promote education, and nurture a culture that will make Indiana internationally attractive, competitive, and a place where all citizens can be proud to call home. ...(More)

Herrion Dixson

Herrion Dixon came to Port-to-Port one year ago as a field technician - unfortunately we were unable to actually celebrate the day thanks the snow we had last week.

Herrion hails from Marion, Indiana in Grant County. He will gladly share the history of Grant County with you if you ask, including the details of the James Dean homestead. He is a 2002 graduate of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Herrion enjoys music and has an extensive personal collection. He enjoys the singles scene in Downtown Indianapolis. Other than music, Herrion's favorite thing to do is work with computers and networks. When he's not working for our customers, he's working on his systems at home. His favorite part of his job is working on computers and being able to finesse them into doing what he wants them to do. Herrion is a creative thinker who works outside the box to create solutions that are not only effective, they are innovative.

Herrion is a welcome member of the Port-to-Port team and looks forward to working with our clients throughout the coming year.
