Staying in Touch with Many

You’re reading an electronic newsletter that comes to you compliments of an Internet based service offered by a company called Vertical Response. Their service is the fourth email management system we’ve used. This newsletter started as a printed newsletter that we sent out monthly back in 1993. From there, it became a fax that we sent beginning in 1995. Then it turned into an email that we built with Microsoft FrontPage and distributed using Outlook in 1997. Each time we changed, some of our readers resisted, however, with each change we were able to reach more people with less time, effort, and cost. Lately, many of you have been making this transition, or starting to communicate with your customers and prospects with informational electronic newsletters. Let me help you avoid mistakes that could lead your domain to the email blacklist....(More)

More Wireless Activity
Lots of things are happening in the area of wireless communications that need to be pulled together to see how they are going to impact us in the not too distant future. Here are the events, not in chronological order but in order of importance. First, Verizon Wireless is opening its network to let any device that meets its specifications be activated on their network. Next, Google has announced the release of Android, its mobile phone software platform that will be released under the Open Source license. Last, later this month, the FCC is going to auction off newly available radio frequencies for use by cell phone providers and they are restricting a portion to be used for open standards devices so that anything legal can be connected to it.
What do these things mean when put together? We should see a new generation of computing devices start to show up in the market. The ability to build a portable device and get wireless service for it will be so much easier that garage tinkerers will be able to start working on the devices we want as opposed to the ones that our teenagers want. You’ll see more devices like the Amazon Kindle, which is an electronic book. The Kindle has a built-in connection to the cell network for ordering and downloading books. There is no phone involved, but it uses the cellular network. Imagine!

In 1990, Firoozeh left her hometown in Iran, family and friends and boarded a plane for the island of Cyprus. Firoozeh had a plan – a plan that would take her through four years of undergraduate work in Management Information Systems at Intercollege, and then, hopefully, on to medical school in Canada. How then, did she end up at Port-to-Port Consulting?
During her studies in Cyprus, Firoozeh learned that Intercollege had an association with the University of Indianapolis in the United States. Armed with a student visa, Firoozeh again left family, friends and the familiar to try something new. She came to Indianapolis to finish her studies. She laughs as she remembers – when she arrived in Indy, it was the snowiest, coldest winter she had ever experienced.
Firoozeh graduated from the University of Indianapolis in 1994 with her Bachelors of Science in Management Information Systems. She joined Port-to-Port Consulting shortly after graduation as a Programmer. She is the third most tenured employee at Port-to-Port, and has seen many changes over the years. Firoozeh said what keeps her excited about her work is the vision that our management hold, the environment where we thrive, and the fact that every day is different.
Firoozeh is no longer just programming. She has become a Software Applications Specialist, meaning she works with many different software packages, making modifications, creating reports, doing installations and upgrades, and integrating data. She enjoys the variety of tasks she performs, and working one-on-one with our clients. Every day is different!
Firoozeh met her husband, Allen, through mutual friends. They were married in 1998, and settled in the Greenwood area. Their son, Wesley, will celebrate his seventh birthday this spring. In the little free time Firoozeh has, she enjoys golf, tennis and swimming, along with spending time with her husband and son. The one thing Firoozeh would like you to know is she is not easily offended, so don’t be afraid to say her name. She’ll laugh with you if you don’t get it right, it won’t hurt her feelings!
Please contact Firoozeh directly at Firoozeh@port-to-port.com with any questions. You can also reach her at (317) 624-9380, ext. 129.
